World Quality Month is a worldwide celebration of quality. The challenge today is to realize that quality is not about control, it is about people.

November is World Quality Month as a reminder of all the work quality gurus have done worldwide to experiment, test and share the best quality practices to help businesses succeed. It all started when Edwards Deming received recognition for his work in Japan after World War II, and he donated the money to continue helping other companies to thrive. This donation gave birth to the Deming Prize in Japan and was the kickstart for other countries to work not only on product control, but also on a systemic approach to achieve business success.

Celebrating Quality

Celebrating the World Quality month is an opportunity to review how we are doing, share our accomplishments and continue growing. Below are some ideas that can help you get the best out of this month.

  • Organize brainstorming sessions with multidisciplinary teams to capture ideas and improvement opportunities.
  • Arrange a lunch-and-learn event about quality or WQM at your organization.
  • Measure the level of psychological safety of the team informally or through interviews that can be done at the company level to explore how comfortable they feel to speak up and improve quality.
  • Train your team on the application of the classic quality tools like the fishbone diagram, the PDSA cycle or the 5S and also explore other tools like Design thinking and agile practices.

The 21st Century is going to be the century of quality, so raise your voice. Help your team improve your business, and show your customers how different you are from the competition.

“Quality is everyone’s responsibility”
