November is World Quality Month. For quality experts, it is a reminder of the importance of our work, especially in times of crisis where quality is needed more than ever.

Still, quality is not the sole task of an expert, quality is everybody’s job.

World Quality Month started when Edwards Deming received recognition for his work in Japan, a country that was devastated after World War II and was suffering a profound crisis. Edwards Deming together with other gurus at that time helped share the best quality practices to help businesses succeed. Deming donated the money received by Japanese authorities to continue helping other companies to thrive. This donation gave birth to the Deming Prize in Japan and was the kickstart for other countries to work on implementing and developing new quality practices.

During this time of unprecedented global crisis, it’s time for all of us to make a micro-change the brings a better quality for society. You may want to implement 5S in your home office, re-design your customer journey, or even organize a remote event to engage your team. Every small action counts.

How to celebrate World Quality Month with a remote team

Celebrating World Quality month is an opportunity to review the quality of your product and services, share your team’s accomplishments, and continue dreaming for a better company. Below are some ideas to celebrate:

  1. Organize a Quality Day that includes brainstorming sessions with multidisciplinary teams to capture ideas and improvement opportunities.
  2. Arrange a remote lunch and learn event about quality at your organization. Keep the event to 30-60 minutes and share major quality-related projects and wins. Focus on the benefits of quality such as cost savings, ROI, brand reputation, etc.
  3. Train your team on the application of classic quality tools like the fishbone diagram, FMEA, SMED or the 5S
  4. Propose a process change by applying innovative tools like Design Thinking, Scrum and agile.
  5. Get your team members a book as a gift to promote learning and development. We have recently published 5S your life, a book about 5S, a quality tool that can also be used at home.
  6. Measure the level of psychological safety through anonymous online surveys to explore how comfortable they feel to speak up and improve quality.
  7. Provide your team access to our online courses, including 5S, Time management, We Culture Leadership skills and Quality Manager

Bear in mind every positive micro-change counts to improve quality. Is not only about the product or the service; it is also about the team, the leaders, the customers, the suppliers and even the community. Quality is everybody’s job!

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us! We will be pleased to help you out organizing or speaking at your events. Book an appointment for a free consultation.
